    Yokohama Marine Tower

The Yokohama Marine Tower is a lattice structure that combines historical significance with modern attractions. Known as the “tallest lighthouse in the world” during its operational days, it now serves as a symbol of Yokohama’s maritime heritage. With observation decks, a media art gallery, shops, and restaurants, the tower is a perfect destination for families, couples, and solo travelers looking to experience Yokohama’s charm from above.

    History of Yokohama Marine Tower

The tower was inaugurated in 1961 to commemorate Yokohama’s maritime history and its role as a gateway for international trade. For decades, it functioned as a lighthouse, guiding ships into Yokohama Port with its alternating red and green lights flashing every 20 seconds.

In 2006, the tower temporarily closed for renovations after being acquired by the city of Yokohama. It reopened in May 2009 during the city’s 150th anniversary celebrations with modernized facilities while retaining its historical essence. Today, it stands as both a tourist attraction and a cultural icon.
