    The Cascade

Yerevan Cascade is a testament to the city’s transformation from a Soviet-era urban plan to a thriving cultural center. The complex was initially conceived by architect Alexander Tamanian in the 1920s as a way to link the city’s central and northern districts. However, it wasn’t until the late 1970s that the project was revived by architect Jim Torosyan. Construction began in the 1980s but faced interruptions due to the 1988 earthquake and the collapse of the Soviet Union. In 2002, philanthropist Gerard L. Cafesjian spearheaded the restoration and completion of the complex, transforming it into the vibrant cultural center it is today.

    History of The Cascade Mountains

The history of Yerevan Cascade is intertwined with the city’s architectural and cultural evolution. Alexander Tamanian envisioned the Cascade as a grand staircase connecting the city’s residential and cultural centers. After decades of neglect, the project was revived and transformed into a thriving arts center under the guidance of Gerard L. Cafesjian. The complex now serves as a symbol of Yerevan’s resilience and cultural rebirth.
