    Vök Baths

Vök Baths is East Iceland’s premier geothermal spa, uniquely set on the shores of Lake Urriðavatn, just minutes from Egilsstaðir. As the only floating geothermal pools in Iceland, Vök Baths offers an immersive wellness experience surrounded by untouched nature and dramatic lake views. Whether you’re seeking relaxation, adventure, or a taste of Icelandic culture, Vök Baths is a must-visit destination for travelers exploring the Ring Road or the Eastfjords.

    History of Vök Baths

The story of Vök Baths is deeply rooted in local legend and natural wonder. For centuries, residents around Lake Urriðavatn noticed mysterious ice-free patches during the harsh Icelandic winters. These spots, called “vök” in Icelandic, were a curiosity in a region otherwise known for its cold climate and lack of geothermal activity. The phenomenon was eventually traced to geothermal springs beneath the lake, providing naturally warm, pure water.

Recognizing the unique potential of this site, Vök Baths was developed and opened to the public in July 2019. The spa was designed to harmonize with its environment, featuring sustainable architecture and floating pools that allow visitors to soak directly above the geothermal springs that inspired the baths’ name.
