    Takino Suzuran Hillside National Park

Nestled in the southern part of Sapporo, Hokkaido, Takino Suzuran Hillside National Government Park is a sprawling natural retreat that offers breathtaking landscapes and activities for visitors of all ages. As the only national government park in Hokkaido, it spans approximately 400 hectares and is divided into several zones, each catering to different interests. Whether you’re a nature lover, an adventure seeker, or a family looking for a fun day out, this park has something for everyone.

History of Takino Suzuran Hillside National Park

The idea for Takino Suzuran Hillside National Park dates back to 1975 when the Hokkaido Regional Development Bureau sought to establish a national government park in the region. Construction began in 1977, and the park opened its first section to the public in 1983. Over time, it expanded to include six distinct zones, though not all are currently accessible. The park’s name, “Suzuran,” translates to “lily of the valley,” reflecting its lush and floral environment.
