Raden Saleh, an Indonesian painter, contributed about 10 hectares of his land for Batavia’s first zoo. In 1966, the zoo was moved to its current location in Ragunan, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, and officially opened on June 22. The former location was transformed into the Taman Ismail Marzuki Performing Arts Center and Jakarta Art Institute. Today, Ragunan Zoo spans 147 hectares and houses over 2,000 animals and 50,000 trees.

- Train: Take the Commuter Line train to Tanjung Barat Station. From there, you can take a taxi or ojek (motorcycle taxi) to the zoo.
