    Miyahara

Nestled near the Taichung Train Station along the scenic Luchuan River, Miyahara is more than just an architectural marvel—it’s a cultural and culinary landmark. Originally built in 1927 by Japanese ophthalmologist Miyahara Takeo, this historic building has undergone a remarkable transformation into one of Taiwan’s most popular tourist destinations. Whether you’re drawn by its rich history or its tantalizing desserts, Miyahara promises an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages.

    History of Miyahara

Miyahara’s story begins in 1927 when it was established as the largest ophthalmology clinic in Taichung during the Japanese colonial period. The clinic served as a vital medical facility until Japan’s surrender in 1945. Afterward, it became the Taichung Health Bureau before falling into disrepair over the decades. The building sustained significant damage during the 1999 Jiji earthquake and Typhoon Kalmaegi in 2008, leaving it abandoned and in ruins.

In 2010, Dawn Cake acquired the property and embarked on an ambitious restoration project. By preserving its original red-brick facade and blending it with modern design elements, they revitalized Miyahara into a dessert paradise that opened to the public in 2012. Today, Miyahara stands as a testament to Taichung’s urban renewal efforts and cultural preservation.
