    Khan Shatyr

Khan Shatyr Entertainment Center, often hailed as the “Royal Marquee,” is a futuristic marvel and one of the most iconic landmarks in Astana (formerly Nur-Sultan), the capital city of Kazakhstan. Towering over the city’s skyline with its distinctive transparent tent-like structure, Khan Shatyr is not just a shopping mall, but a multi-purpose entertainment and leisure complex that offers a unique blend of architectural innovation, world-class attractions, and year-round comfort for visitors of all ages. Whether you’re a family seeking fun, a shopping enthusiast, or a traveler eager to witness modern Kazakh culture, Khan Shatyr stands as a must-visit destination in Central Asia.

    History of Khan Shatyr

Khan Shatyr opened its doors to the public on July 6, 2010, coinciding with the 70th birthday of Kazakhstan’s first president, Nursultan Nazarbayev. The name “Khan Shatyr” translates to “Royal Marquee,” symbolizing its grand scale and regal presence. Designed by world-renowned British architect Sir Norman Foster, the structure represents a bold leap into neo-futuristic architecture, making it one of the most recognizable buildings in Central Asia.

The entertainment center was conceived as a symbol of modern Kazakhstan’s aspirations and rapid development. Its construction began in December 2006 and was completed in July 2010, with a total height of 150 meters and a floor area exceeding 100,000 square meters. The innovative design includes a special transparent polymer roof supported by steel cables, which allows sunlight to filter through while maintaining a stable, comfortable climate inside, regardless of Astana’s extreme weather conditions.
