Kata Noi Beach (“little Kata”) is a small, beautiful bay of about 850 metres just south of Kata Beach on Phuket’s southwest coast. Backed by green hills and with only a few resorts along it, it is noticeably calmer than its bigger neighbour, with soft white sand and very clear water in the dry season.

History of Kata Noi Beach
Kata Noi stayed a quiet cove long after Patong and Kata developed, partly because it sits at the end of a dead-end road beneath the hills. Instead of a busy beach road, the bay is lined by a handful of resorts, the largest being Katathani Phuket Beach Resort, which keeps the beach itself relatively uncrowded.
Beaches in Thailand are public, so anyone can walk onto the sand, even though most of the shoreline is fronted by hotels.
Attractions at Kata Noi Beach
- The bay: around 850 metres of soft sand framed by headlands, with clear blue water from about November to April.
- Snorkelling: the rocks at the northern end are worth exploring on calm days.
- Hilltop sunset bars: bars and restaurants on the hill above the bay, such as The Sundeck and After Beach Bar, have wide views over the Andaman Sea.
- Karon Viewpoint: a few minutes’ drive south, overlooking Kata Noi, Kata and Karon.

- Swim: best from November to April. From May to October the sea can be rough with strong currents, so obey the red flags.
- Snorkel: bring your own gear and try the rocky northern end.
- Relax: there are no public sunbed rentals, so bring a towel and find a shady spot under the trees.
- Watch the sunset: from the beach or from a hilltop bar.
Kata Noi Beach – Entry Eligibility and Open Timings
Kata Noi is a public beach with free entry. Parking near the beach is limited, so arrive before about 10 am in high season.
The beach is safest for swimming from November to April. During the southwest monsoon (about May to October) waves and rip currents can be dangerous.

Plan on half a day for swimming and relaxing; add an hour for sunset drinks on the hill.
How to Get There
- From Kata Beach: Kata Noi is about 1.5 km south; walk along the road (around 15 minutes) or take a short taxi ride. There is no coastal path between the two.
- From the airport: about 44 km, roughly an hour by car.
- By Phuket Smart Bus: the airport to Rawai Smart Bus stops in Kata, from where you can walk or take a taxi.
- By taxi, ride-hailing or scooter: easy from Kata, Karon or Patong.
