ToggleGreater Iqbal Park
Greater Iqbal Park is the big public park that surrounds Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore, right beside the Lahore Fort and the Badshahi Mosque. Managed by the Parks and Horticulture Authority Lahore, it was relaunched in 2016 with a lake, a musical fountain, a digital history museum and plenty of space for families.
This guide covers the park itself and its attractions. For the story of the national monument at its centre, see our guide to Minar-e-Pakistan.

History of Greater Iqbal Park
The grounds were used for military parades in Mughal and Sikh times, when they were known as the Parade Ground. The British later named the area Minto Park, and on 23 March 1940 it hosted the All-India Muslim League session that passed the Lahore Resolution. After independence it was renamed Iqbal Park in honour of the poet-philosopher Muhammad Iqbal.
A major renovation began in October 2015 and expanded the park to take in the stretch of Circular Road towards the Lahore Fort. It reopened as Greater Iqbal Park in December 2016, and the National History Museum opened inside the park in 2018.
